I'm back! Yes, I'm back...
Sorry for not blogging, the hotels in ANZ really sucked. Our first night in Auckland, the internet service was down country-wide, and for Aussie, both hotels in Sydney and Melbourne didn't have WIFI in the room, only dial-up which we cldn't access. So basically we lost touch of the civil world last week, only managed to hop from company to company for meetings, meetings and more meetings.
The colleagues all commented that it was a "shiok" trip for me. Hey, what "shiok"? It was no joke ok? We had to rush from place to place and sometimes had to miss a meal to ensure that we arrive punctually at our disty's place. Australians are quite time-conscious, so we tried our best to be on time, except once when the MD's alarm didn't work and we had to wait 15mins for him at the hotel lobby to start the day's hectic schedule. And mind you, their cab fares are so bloody expensive. I was checking out their meter and horrors of horrors, the meter jumps every 3 seconds!! So let say if the journey takes you 30mins, you probably will end up having to pay about A$40 for the entire trip!
NZ seems to be a laid back place to me, once you are out of the airport and down the road, you see nothing but green patches of grass, cows in the lawn, calm sea and of cos' the sky! I don't remember seeing a single soul walking on the streets, it's seems more like a ghost town. haha. For Sydney, the first day's weather was gloomy and dark, it seems like the sky is going to erupt into a major storm, but surprisingly, it cleared before sunset and the next day's weather was bright and sunny with cooling breeze. Melbourne was ok, except that the night at HB Tan's place for dinner, the weather went down to as low as 10 degrees, so when he opened the sliding door for a smoke, we all crammed up in his living room and teeth chattering with cold. Luckily he offered us wine, so it felt all warm and nice inside abide the aircon weather at night. Can you believe it? There were only 4 of us but we managed to finish up 4 bottles of red wine and 1 bottle of Port. If I think I was sober enough to remember, I had 5 glasses of wine altogether that night. My alcohol threshold has weakened since I've retired from the partying days, so this time with 5 glasses, I think it's already a consolation. haha. I think the best part of the dinner at HB's place was the plate of oysters. Talking about it makes me salivate. I've tasted many types of oysters, but those which he served were really fresh and tasty. Those were the South Australian ones, as compared to the Sydney Rocks made available here in Singapore, they are really big and juicy. If there were no sushi, I could have walloped 10 of them that night and end up going back to the hotel room and hump the wall, muhaha!
And did I mention that I left my made-in-china booties in Melbourne? I was so pissed that the booties gave way the very first day on my trip. Damn, the fake PVC skin started to peel when I walked in them for the 1st hour and thereafter they just keep on peeling like bad skin everyday when I wore them. So embarrassed wearing them to the business meetings that I gave up and changed my attire on my 3rd day visit! You see, I wore my green adidas with jeans when I boarded the plane and the boots were the only pair I brought to go with my formal wear. So with the boots giving way, I decided to top my black blazar with the jeans and sneakers. Good thing the MD didn't comment anything, I mean I didn't have a choice too cos' I didn't have the time to shop for a new pair of shoes, the shopping malls all close as early as 5pm. Though I had the chance to do some light shopping (like for only 30mins?), I stormed around this shopping mall near my Sydney hotel, but to only realise that it cost as much as A$89 for a pair of china imported court shoes. Siao! I could easily bought 3 pairs of nice shoes from Charles & Keith or even in Far East Plaza. And those shoes weren't fantastically nice too. So I dropped the idea and bought myself a khaki sweater at the open bazaar instead. Heehee.. talk about being a shopaholic.
Photos will be up in the next blog, promise promise...*wink*
